SAPS Launches Online Recruitment Drive for 5,500 Police Trainees

Johannesburg, 30 June 2025 — The South African Police Service (SAPS) has today officially launched its groundbreaking e-Recruitment initiative, marking a historic shift towards digital transformation in its hiring processes.

The nationwide campaign aims to attract 5,500 young men and women eager to serve as police trainees in the upcoming 2025/2026 financial year.

For the first time ever, SAPS is utilizing an Electronic Recruitment System (e-Recruitment) accessible via its official website, allowing aspiring officers from all backgrounds to submit applications conveniently online.

This move is designed to streamline the recruitment process, reduce administrative burdens, and promote transparency and fairness.

The recruitment drive will run from today until 18 July 2025.

Applicants aged between 18 and 35, who are in good health and possess no criminal record or pending cases, are encouraged to apply by visiting www.saps.gov.za/careers and selecting the e-Recruitment portal.

In addition to general recruitment, SAPS is targeting individuals with specialized skills and qualifications, including degrees in Law, Criminology, Forensic Investigation, Information Technology, and related fields.

These candidates are particularly sought for placements within specialized units such as the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Detective Services, Forensic Services, and Crime Intelligence.

Applicants will undergo a comprehensive selection process, which includes psychometric testing, integrity assessments, physical fitness evaluations, fingerprinting, vetting, and medical examinations.

Successful candidates will then embark on a nine-month training program at SAPS academies nationwide, receiving a monthly stipend of R4,500.

This initiative complements SAPS’s ongoing efforts under Project 10 000, launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa, which has successfully recruited and trained over 30,000 young people since its inception three years ago.

SAPS emphasizes that the application process is entirely free of charge, and no positions are for sale. All applications must be submitted exclusively through the official SAPS website or approved online portals.
